Laying Down the Law
Laying Down the Law
The first ever book on all Australian Test Umpires. Our umpires tell their stories, have their say, and share previously unknown details on how they think and go about their job.
This book is titled 'Stick It Up, Stick it Right Up' in recognition of one of those hints given to all new Australian umpires. Alan Powell, a past Tasmanian Cricket Association Umpires Advisor, and former Sheffield Shield Umpire, Mike Grady who stood with Roger Donnelly in some of his early matches, drummed it into him that he not only had to get the correct decision, but show the whole world that he had been decisive in his action. "Don't take too long, but don't be too hasty, but get that finger right up in the air. Even if you have made a mistake you will gain more respect from the players for having been decisive"
